Bette Sans Souci, a metahuman who can turn everything she touches into explosives, appears in Central City. She is being hunted by General Wade Ayling, a former military explosives expert. Barry takes her to the S. T. A. R. lab, where the team explains to her that she has been altered by a particle accelerator that has linked the bomb's shrapnel to her body on a cellular level; and they cannot reverse this process. Secretly, Wells convinces Beth to kill Ailing. Barry rushes to stop her, and Ailing shoots her, who dies after mentioning Wells ' name. Her body turns into a bomb. Barry escapes with the body and throws it into the river to save the city from a massive explosion. Eiling visits Wells, demanding that they work together again, this time to collect the metahumans. Wells refuses and warns Eiling never to return to S. T. A. R. Labs. Meanwhile, Barry ends his friendship with Iris after she refuses his advice not to write about The Strip. In a flashback set five years ago, Wells tells Eiling that he is ending his experiments. After Eiling leaves, Wells goes to the cage and tells Gorilla Grodd that he has plans for him.
